We are seeking an Archaeology Technician / Cultural Resource Specialist to perform a variety of technical responsibilities and administrative activities. As a small business, our staff must wear many hats. Typical assignments will include assisting with archaeological field work, historic above-ground survey, laboratory processing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Safely driving to field and client locations regionally where we do work (PA, WV, MD, DC, VA, and MI and other states as we expand)
  2. Archaeological Field Work, including:
    • Conduct reconnaissance of Project Areas
    • Execute field plans for Phase I Survey
    • Lead field crews of up to 10 technicians
    • Understanding of State and Federal regulations preferred
    • Hiking several miles per day carrying equipment (up to 50 pounds) in rough terrain during potentially inclement weather.
    • Excavate shovel test pits, test units and screening soils
    • Knowledge of soils and use of Munsell Soil Color Book
    • Knowledge of Native American and historic artifacts
    • Maintaining field notes and daily logs
    • Digital Photography
    • Operating a mapping grade GPS unit
    • Compass and orienteering skills preferred.
  3. Above-ground Historic Resource Field Work, including:
    • Execute field plans for Above-ground Resource Survey
    • Lead field crews of up to 10 technicians
    • Driving to identified above-ground historic resource locations.
    • Digital recording of resources using ESRI Survey123 forms on mobile phone
    • Maintaining field notes and daily logs
    • Knowledge of architectural history or historic preservation preferred.
  4. Conducting background research online and in repositories (i.e., court houses, archives, historical societies)
  5. Excellent writing and communication using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint, Teams, and other software)
  6. Provide support for reporting
  7. Some regional and overnight is required, duration and location varies by project, task, and time of year
  8. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree (or demonstration of curriculum leading to degree, or demonstrated professional experience) in Anthropology (Archaeology), Cultural Resource Management, History, Geology, or related field
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 suite of software
  • Excellent communication skills, works well with others, positive attitude, and hard working

  1. Physical requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and hike several miles in rough terrain during inclement weather.
  2. Possess a valid driver’s license in the employee’s state of residence
  3. Must be able to pass a background check

  4. Must be able to pass drug test.

Pay and Benefits:
