Civil and Environmental Engineering
Big Pine believes in helping the communities where our family and friends live and work. Site development projects provide our communities with housing, jobs, and recreational opportunities. Utilities provide the heat, light, connectivity, and water that our communities need. Our roads, airports, waterways, and railways keep our communities and people connected. Our clients have great visions for the infrastructure projects that provide our quality of life. At Big Pine, we design, permit, and monitor construction of infrastructure projects in environmentally sustainable ways that protect future generations to achieve our client’s vision.
We are a small consulting company that values all our clients, not just the big ones. If you have ever felt like a larger consulting firm was ignoring your needs or putting you at the bottom of their list of priorities, you should give us a chance to help! Big Pine staff have the experience and skills to design and plan infrastructure projects from small stand-alone projects to large complex projects, just like the large consulting firms. Unlike larger firms that only value large projects that “move the needle” in their earnings, Big Pine will happily take on small projects and provide our clients with the same level of service that we do for our large clients. We will communicate with you regularly throughout your project to keep you informed about progress, challenges, and plans that successfully achieve your goals. We want you to feel like we are an extension of your staff, dedicated to getting your project done well.
We know that no site or project is the same and the regulatory environment is always changing. The complexities of designing and permitting projects requires technical expertise, solid project management, strong communication with the project team, and relationships with regulatory agencies to understand their dynamic requirements. Our staff have the experience and relationships, our company provides the tools and training, and our commitment to you will make your project successful from inception through construction.
We know that our clients don’t like surprises. Success for most infrastructure projects is measured by achieving the scope on time and within budget. Big Pine takes pride in providing the deliverables that meet the quality standards for our clients and get the work done according to the communicated schedule. We only add budget when the scope changes to avoid surprise change orders. Scope changes can occur for a variety reasons, some we can know of up front even if we don’t know the full scope. We like to try and foreshadow the ‘known unknowns’ to our clients early on so that they can be prepared and plan for such instances. Because no site or project is the same, some challenges are truly unforeseeable. Some large companies take advantage of unknowns by low bidding up front and adding numerous change orders to their services on the back end. If you have felt like another consultant is giving you requests for change orders for work you already approved, you should give us a try. We don’t underbid our work with an expectation that we will make it up with change orders as we feel that causes undue stress for both our clients and our staff. Starting with unreasonable expectations hurts everyone.
We are here to help. We don’t charge our clients to discuss conceptual requirements and assumptions of potential future projects. If you are considering a project and your manager has asked you to estimate an “all in” budget and schedule to plan and permit a project, give us a call! We will give you an hour of our time to walk you through what we know will be required, what we think might be required, and what we think the scope, cost, and schedule should look like so that you can have an informed discussion with your manager.
Your success is our success. We want you to come back to us to help you with all of your civil and environmental engineering needs. We want to be the first consultant you call to solve complex design and permitting problems. Big Pine utilizes frequent interaction, open communication, and technical proficiency to develop cost-effective solutions for your challenging projects. Our success is based on the ability to interact with clients, municipal and state governments, and regulatory agencies. Big Pine has developed a reputation for meeting even the most demanding project schedules which is recognized by clients consistently utilizing our services of Environmental and Civil Engineering.
